The Judgment

The Receptive brings about sublime success, furthering through the perseverance of a mare. The superior person who has breadth of character carries the outer world.

The Image

Earth upon earth. Boundless receptivity, the mare that runs free across the open plain. Six broken lines represent pure yin — the force that receives, nurtures, and brings to completion what the creative begins.

Interpretation

Hexagram 2 is pure receptive power. This is not weakness but the profound strength of the earth itself — the force that receives the seed and transforms it into life. When The Receptive appears, your role is to support, to nurture, to allow things to develop in their natural time. Do not force outcomes. Do not lead aggressively. Instead, respond to what arises with devotion and care. The mare symbolizes strength combined with gentleness — she is not passive but chooses her path with quiet intelligence.

Advice

Follow rather than lead right now. Support others' initiatives. Nurture what has already been planted. Your strength lies in patience, acceptance, and the willingness to serve something larger than yourself.
