Upright Meaning

The Emperor sits on a stone throne carved with ram's heads — the symbol of Aries, Mars, and martial authority. He holds an ankh in one hand (life) and an orb in the other (dominion). Behind him, the landscape is barren mountains — his domain is structure, order, and law, not the fertile gardens of the Empress. He represents the principle of civilization itself: the imposition of order upon chaos.

Reversed Meaning

Reversed, The Emperor's authority becomes authoritarianism. Structure becomes rigidity. Control becomes domination. This position warns against excessive need for control — either your own or someone else's. It can indicate a father figure or authority who has overstepped, or your own tendency to grip too tightly when you should be adapting.
