Upright Meaning

Justice sits on her throne holding a sword in her right hand (the hand of action and rationality) and scales in her left (the hand of intuition and reception). Unlike the blindfolded Lady Justice of civil law, the Rider-Waite Justice sees clearly — her eyes are open. The purple veil behind her hides unseen consequences. This is the card of karmic balance: every action has a consequence, and truth will eventually be known.

Reversed Meaning

Reversed, Justice warns of dishonesty, unfairness, or a refusal to accept consequences. Someone is not being held accountable — possibly you. This card reversed asks for radical honesty: what truth are you avoiding, and what would change if you faced it?
