Two of Cups
Upright Meaning
Two figures face each other, exchanging cups in a ceremony of mutual commitment. Above them rises a caduceus topped with a winged lion — the alchemical symbol of healing and the merging of opposites. This is the card of true partnership: romantic, creative, or business. Unlike The Lovers (which involves a cosmic choice), the Two of Cups is personal and immediate — two people choosing each other, eye to eye, cup to cup. Equal giving, equal receiving.
Reversed Meaning
Reversed, the Two of Cups signals an imbalance in a partnership. One person gives more than they receive, communication has broken down, or a once-balanced relationship has shifted. This doesn't necessarily mean the relationship is over — but the cups are no longer being exchanged equally. Someone needs to speak first.
