Ingwaz
Ing / Fertility
About Ingwaz
Ingwaz is the rune of the god Ing (Freyr), the Norse god of fertility, prosperity, and the harvest. It represents the potential energy stored in the seed — not the active growth of Berkano but the quiet accumulation of power that precedes emergence. Ingwaz is completion and beginning simultaneously: the end of one cycle and the gestation of the next.
Upright Meaning
Gestation and internal growth. Something is developing inside you — a project, an idea, a new phase of life — but it is not yet ready to be born. Ingwaz is the seed in the ground, the child in the womb, the potential that is gathering strength in darkness. Do not rush this process. Do not dig up the seed to check its progress. Trust that growth is happening, even when you cannot see it.
No Reversed Meaning
Ingwaz has no reversed meaning in most traditions due to its symmetrical shape. In challenging positions, it can indicate impotence (creative or literal), a project that fails to develop, or the frustration of potential that never manifests. The seed was planted, but the conditions were not right for growth.
