Upright Meaning

An angel stands with one foot on land and one in water, pouring liquid between two cups in an endless flow. The triangle on the angel's chest represents the integration of opposing forces — fire and water, conscious and unconscious, above and below. The path in the background leads to a golden crown on the horizon: the destination of the balanced path. Temperance is the art of the middle way, the alchemical process of combining disparate elements into something greater than either alone.

Reversed Meaning

Reversed, Temperance signals that something is out of balance. You may be overindulging in one area while neglecting another, or forcing elements together that need time to integrate naturally. The flow between the cups has been disrupted. Step back and ask what needs more space, more time, or simply less force.
